New Operative Course with RSPH Certificate

This course is aimed at new operatives. This includes those who have little or no experience with asbestos removal, or who have had a 6 month absence.

To enable operatives to work with and remove asbestos safely and effectively. This will be done by providing operatives with sufficient knowledge, experience and skills, in accordance with Control of Asbestos 2012 (CAR, 2012) and Health and Safety Executive (HSE) guidance.

In order to show the operative has achieved the required level of understanding, tests are set at the end of each module. The overall pass mark necessary is 70%. Candidates must also be able to demonstrate the use of decontamination procedures. Candidates not doing so will not pass the course.

At the end of this course new operatives should have knowledge and practical experience of:

  • Health hazards of asbestos
  • Enclosures and airlocks
  • Use and maintenance of RPE
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Dust suppression and controlled removal techniques
  • Air management
  • Practical primary and full decontamination procedures
  • Transit procedures
  • Waste procedures
  • Cleaning/ clearance/ air testing
  • Legislation

Courses are run on an ad-hoc basis.
