Head of Operations - Licensed Asbestos Removal

£70k OTE - Basic salary plus performance related pay, 5.6 weeks holiday, company vehicle, expenses, overnight allowance, and pension.

Kusten Vorland is a dynamic licensed asbestos removal contractor with our Head Office in Cardiff, a five-minute walk from the train station. We are a controlled niche of 25 experts providing asbestos management and removal solutions throughout the UK. Our regional offices are Swansea, Newport, Bristol and Wiltshire, we work in London but haven't established a base there yet.  We are progressive and look for limit-less talent to add to the creativity and experience of our established team.

We are looking for a dynamic, entrepreneurial Head of Operations. We expect a fully rounded individual, so if you have dabbled in leading a department as part of a bigger team- this is not for you.  You see, whilst managing the licensed asbestos removal department you must be able to handle account management and budgeting effortlessly. Not only can you write a winning proposal, you can also deliver a successful contract. Authoritarian enough to run a tight ship, but charismatic in leadership and approach. You must be commercially minded, offer consultant level technical advice and manage a team who will rely on your expertise for direction. You will be capable of controlling output so the company is compliant and staff are safe. As a senior team member, you will work closely with our Director, Katie Parsons-Young and combined you'll have the power to strengthen business operations post Covid-19 uncertainty. Obviously, there are some prerequisites:

Desirable qualifications:

  • Leadership qualification.

  • Project management qualification.

  • Senior site management safety training. 

  • Degree level or equivalent experience in a construction related discipline.

Essential experience:

  • Experienced manager at a senior level within the asbestos industry.

  • Significant technical ability within the asbestos industry, able to engage with HSE, authorities and key personnel when required.

  • Capable of collating information and justifying our technical methods using personal monitoring, experience of techniques, auditing, and project evaluation.

  • Experience of operating in commercial environment.

  • Experience of business development and marketing in the context of a self-financing organisation, including making submissions to win projects and contracts.

  • Experienced and accountable in Health and safety for the business and its stakeholders.

  • A thorough understanding of construction procurement. Supported by an appreciation of licensed industries and or the construction industry.

  • Lead, motivate and manage the team and associated external organisations in a diverse and complex environment to foster good working relations and practises, developing strategies and proposing policies to meet the desired outcomes and objectives of the existing contracts.

  • A high level of ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to present technical information.

  • Commercial judgement supported by business skills in marketing and financial control.

  • Ability to bring about significant new business, ability to direct the team.

  • Experience of method statements, plans of work, and technical paperwork for delivering licensed asbestos removal.

  • Analytical approach to problem solving.

  • Ability to work flexibly and outside normal office hours when required with a willingness to travel nationwide with occasional overnight stop-over as necessary.

Job role:

  • The most senior person within the asbestos removal department.

  • You are responsible and accountable for Health and safety of the department.

  • You will be responsible and accountable for the team, the clients, the work, the license and our business performance.

  • You will prepares budgets, manage suppliers, deliver and plan all operational activity for the company.

  • You will provide technical advice and guidance to others.

  • A dynamic leader, you will manage and motivate the team to perform at their best.

  • Develop plans to increase efficiency and reduce costs.

  • You will manage and monitor performance, audit and improve existing systems and policies.

  • Ensure customer requirements are met in a timely manner.

  • With the HR representative you will be responsible for the contracts and monitoring of staff.

  • Manages stock and inventory including vehicles.

We'll require experience in:

    • Proven track record in pricing and winning work.

    • Competence in delivering and managing licensed asbestos removal projects UK-wide.

    • Delivering audits using the ARCA app or competent at audits equivalent to Contract Manager standard.

    • Capable of interpreting audit results to make improvements where necessary within the company.

    • Liaising with senior management and authorities including HSE inspectors.

    • Team leadership.

    • Delivery, able to plan and manage jobs so they complete on time and within budget.

    • Presentation. Capable of creating immaculately presented workspaces, both work stores and client sites.

    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Absolutely computer literate.

    • Good working knowledge of asbestos legislation and removal techniques.

    • Must be confident in negotiating with suppliers.

    • Immaculate paperwork, able to write reports, detailed cost proposals and site-specific method statements and risk assessments.

    • Taking responsibility and accountability for Health & Safety on site.

You will usually be based across South Wales, Bristol and Wiltshire- sometimes further afield. So occasional travel and overnight stays are required.
