Our Founder
I’m Katie Parsons-Young, an independent asbestos consultant and the founder of Kusten Vorland. I have spent more than 20 years helping organisations understand, manage and resolve asbestos risks. My experience extends far beyond identifying asbestos or interpreting survey reports.
For more than a decade, I directed the operational and compliance activities of our licensed asbestos removal division, with responsibility for everything from complex project planning and regulatory compliance to safe systems of work, training and client delivery.
Meet Katie
My experience in asbestos contracting gives me a rare, practical understanding of the entire asbestos management process. I know how decisions made at survey stage affect removal works, building operations, project costs and, most importantly, the people who may be put at risk.
Today, I work as an independent consultant, providing clients with clear, commercially informed advice without being tied to a surveying laboratory or removal contractor.
I specialise in asbestos management for hotels and multi-site property portfolios, where protecting guests, employees and business continuity requires considerably more than simply holding an asbestos register.
My role is to help clients see the whole picture: what their legal duties mean in practice, whether their existing information can be relied upon, what genuinely needs attention and how to create a proportionate management strategy.
I am known for making complex asbestos issues understandable and for giving clients the confidence to make informed decisions.

Katie's StoryAlongside consultancy, I am a qualified educator and UKATA-registered asbestos awareness tutor.
Training is an important part of my work because good asbestos management depends on people understanding not only what they must do, but why it matters. I bring real incidents, practical examples and years of operational experience into every course I deliver.
I hold an MBA from Cardiff University and a BA (Hons) in Economics and Marketing, alongside specialist qualifications in asbestos surveying, contract management and education and training. This combination of technical, operational and commercial experience allows me to approach asbestos as both a safety responsibility and an organisational risk.
Outside work, I enjoy yoga, bouldering and anything involving walking outdoors, although a considerable amount of my spare time is devoted to grassroots rugby.
I have served as Mini and Junior Fixtures Secretary for Old Penarthians RFC since the 2024/25 season and was incredibly proud to be named the club’s 2025/26 Club Person of the Year.
I’m happiest by the sea, usually walking the dog, collecting shells and searching for interesting stones along the way. At home, I’m often tending to my ever growing collection of plants or seeing what the latest batch from my rock tumbler has revealed. Walking gives me the space to switch off, reset and return to work with a fresh perspective.
